David Thompson serves as group president and chief information officer (CIO), Symantec Services Group. In this role, he leads a combined external and internal services organization that offers expert solutions and support—in information security, technology, availability, and storage—to accelerate the realization of customer investments.

Prior to joining Symantec, Thompson was senior vice president and CIO for Oracle and oversaw the Global Information Technology group. Before joining Oracle, Thompson was the CIO at PeopleSoft for seven years where he led the transition to the adoption of its own Internet applications to reduce costs and improve efficiency. He also led PeopleSoft through the M&A integrations of both Vantive and JD Edwards. During his tenure at PeopleSoft, his leadership allowed the corporation to realize over $100 million in savings through IT process optimization and online business process enablement.

Thompson has more than 18 years of experience in IT leadership in the high technology industry and he began his career in the United States Air Force.
