- PARALLEL SESSIONS -
Cleantech Venture Investments: The New Paradigm

Saturday, May 16, 2009
10: 30 AM - 11:45 AM

Attend this session to get an insight into the VC community's current Cleantech sectors of interest, and tips for starting and funding Cleantech companies in today's environment.

You will learn how the new financing, economic and regulatory paradigms are affecting Cleantech. You will take away a keen understanding of what the key challenges are, where the opportunities are, and how you can best overcome the challenges and realize the opportunities.

The panel will discuss and attempt to answer the following types of questions:

  1. Is Cleantech still the greatest investment opportunity, esp. in light of the current economic crisis and financing environment?
  2. Which sectors within Cleantech are (these) VC's currently investing in? Why? Which sectors are they NOT investing in? Why?
  3. What is their sweet spot? Are they investing in early or late stage?
  4. From a capital efficiency and returns perspective, the opportunities for budding entrepreneurs (attending this session) are greater on which side: supply-side renewable energy generation or demand-side efficiency investments? How (if) do the opportunities in each side differ?
  5. Will the Stimulus bill help Cleantech innovation? How? What are the potential implications of new taxes, incentives, trade caps, environmental regulations, and policies? How can the entrepreneurs benefit from it?
  6. What is the future of Cleantech venture capital? What should entrepreneurs be looking for as they engage with VCs?
  7. Is the time to exit or exit path for a Cleantech start-up different than a traditional IT startup? If the markets take long to recover, what alternate exit paths do you foresee for Cleantech?
